Rivers State Government Mandates Free Enrollment of Civil Servants, Pensioners into Contributory Health Scheme

The Rivers State Government has taken a significant step towards ensuring comprehensive healthcare coverage for its workforce and retirees.

In a recent Executive Order signed by the State Administrator, Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, all serving civil servants and retirees are now mandatorily enrolled in the Contributory Health Scheme of Rivers State.

This directive marks a milestone in the government’s commitment to delivering accessible and sustainable healthcare.

The Administrator emphasised that the move is designed to guarantee that pensioners enjoy quality healthcare throughout their retirement.

To that end, he has approved the free enrollment of all pensioners into the Rivers State Health Insurance Programme (RIVCHIP), the state’s revitalised health insurance agency which now serves as the cornerstone of Rivers State’s free healthcare initiative.

“Rivers State pensioners will now have access to free healthcare across the state,” Vice Admiral Ibas stated. “I have also signed an Executive Order mandating the enrollment of all civil servants into the health insurance program.

“God willing, free healthcare will take root in the State through this initiative,” he added.
